Circuits with Medium Fan-In

چکیده
We consider boolean circuits in which every gate may compute an arbitrary boolean function of k other gates, for a parameter k. We give an explicit function f : {0, 1} → {0, 1} that requires at least Ω(log2 n) non-input gates when k = 2n/3. When the circuit is restricted to being layered and depth 2, we prove a lower bound of nΩ(1) on the number of non-input gates. When the circuit is a formula with gates of fan-in k, we give a lower bound Ω(n2/k logn) on the total number of gates. Our model is connected to some well known approaches to proving lower bounds in complexity theory. Optimal lower bounds for the Number-On-Forehead model in communication complexity, or for bounded depth circuits in AC0, or extractors for varieties over small fields would imply strong lower bounds in our model. On the other hand, new lower bounds for our model would prove new time-space tradeoffs for branching programs and impossibility results for (fan-in 2) circuits with linear size and logarithmic depth. In particular, our lower bound gives a different proof for a known time-space tradeoff for oblivious branching programs. 1998 ACM Subject Classification F.1.m [Theory of Computation] Computation by Abstract Devices – Miscellaneous

A New Circuit Scheme for Wide Dynamic Circuits
In this paper, a new circuit scheme is proposed to reduce the power consumption of dynamic circuits. In the proposed circuit, an NMOS keeper transistor is used to maintain the voltage level in the output node against charge sharing, leakage current and noise sources. Using the proposed keeper scheme, the voltage swing on the dynamic node is lowered to reduce the power consumption of wide fan-in...
متن کاملCircuit Bottom Fan-in and Computational Power
We investigate the relationship between circuit bottom fan-in and circuit size when circuit depth is fixed. We show that in order to compute certain functions, a moderate reduction in circuit bottom fan-in will cause significant increase in circuit size. In particular, we prove that there are functions that are computable by circuits of linear size and depth k with bottom fan-in 2 but require e...

متن کاملQuantum Circuits with Unbounded Fan-out
We demonstrate that the unbounded fan-out gate is very powerful. Constant-depth polynomial-size quantum circuits with bounded fan-in and unbounded fan-out over a fixed basis (denoted by QNCf ) can approximate with polynomially small error the following gates: parity, mod[q], And, Or, majority, threshold[t], exact[q], and counting. Classically, we need logarithmic depth even if we can use unboun...

Abstract: Alluvial fan are one of the most dynamic Quaternary landforms in arid areas. An alluvial fan in the southeast of the city Yazd was identified based on satellite images; in this research, the primary objective of this study is to investigate the surface and subsurface sedimentology of alluvial fan flasks. Twenty soil samples were taken for sedimentological studies. The result indicate ...
